It’s been long rumored that ZombiU, a first person zombie survival game exclusive to the WiiU, would be re-released onto the current gen consoles. Today, that rumor turned out to finally be true when Ubisoft, the developer of the game, announced it would be coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 18th as a digital download only.
For those of you that haven’t heard of the game, it launched in November 2012 and failed to make any kind of a mark due to all around, at best, mediocre gameplay, graphics and combat. So, is this going to be a direct port or will the flaws be improved upon? Well, an official blog post from Ubisoft, Hélène Henry (producer of the game) has promised some tweaks.
“Without hesitation,” Henry says, the most important thing to preserve in Zombi is “the general sense of claustrophobia, and not knowing what is coming next – at least for new players. It’s mostly small technical improvements on what was already there – the faster load times, and the small changes to controls. In fact, a lot of time was spent getting the controls mapped as intuitively as possible, to keep the original atmosphere.”
Can’t say I was a fan of the game when it was first released, as it felt gimmicky to the WiiU, but I’d be willing to give it another shot.
Zombi is a first-person survival horror game set in London, in which the player assumes the role of a random survivor in a zombie apocalypse. The player collects various items and weapons used to fight and kill zombies that are located or looted from different areas. If the player’s character is killed by a zombie (which can occur with a single bite), the character will permanently die and the player will then take the role of another random survivor. The previous character will become a zombie, whom the player must kill in order to reclaim his original inventory.
