I don’t know about you, but I more or less gave up on the majority of zombie films several years ago. The sub-genre has been totally beaten into the ground and drained of all life, with very few modern day zombie movies accomplishing anything other than making me miss George Romero.
Of course, there are exceptions to all things, and every so often, a movie comes along that totally revitalizes an entire sub-genre. For zombie cinema, that was the Ford brothers’ 2010 film The Dead, which somehow managed to remind me why I fell in love with zombie movies in the first place.
Trust me. If you haven’t yet seen The Dead, make it a point to change that. And don’t be fooled by the generic title, which makes it sound like just another generic zombie movie. Because it’s anything but.
This September, the Ford brothers return with The Dead 2, which takes the action from Africa to India. The film centers on a man who learns that his pregnant girlfriend is trapped near the slums of Mumbai. He must battle his way across a 300-mile wasteland of the ravenous undead and into a nightmare city seething with flesh-eating madness.
