Zombieland was one of the top-grossing horror movies of 2009 and probably one of the most loved horror comedies to date. But other than a failed TV-Show, we didn’t get any follow-ups. Until now.
In 2016, the Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese announced that they are working on the highly anticipated sequel. They also announced that they will bring back the old cast; some Oscar-nominated: Emma Stone just won her first Academy Award as Best Actress.
In a recent interview with comicbook.com, promoting their new movie Life, they said that the movie is still in the works. The whole cast has read the script and loved it. Ruben Fleischer, director of Zombieland, is signed on to direct the sequel.
The only thing hindering the shooting of the movie, according to Reese and Wernick, is that they need to make a deal with the cast to get their final budget number.
“All the cast have become superstars now so, we made Zombieland with 20 million,” Wernick said, “so it’s trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid.”
The writers regained success recently by writing Deadpool, one of the highest grossing movies of 2016. They got it made by pestering the studio bosses until it was done. That’s the same approach they are taking to Zombieland 2. And it seems to be working.
“We’re not letting it go. We really want to see Zombieland 2.”
These final words from Reese sound promising enough. Now we have to wait and see.
