Netflix has dropped the first trailer for I’m Thinking of Ending Things, an adaptation of Canadian author Iain Reid’s debut novel by the same name.
The film is written and directed by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich) and stars Toni Collette (Hereditary), David Thewlis (The Omen), Jesse Plemons (Black Mirror), and Jessie Buckley (Taboo).
The story centers on an unnamed woman (Buckley) who travels with her boyfriend Jake (Plemons) to visit his parents (Collette, Thewlis) on their isolated farm. The woman is thinking of ending the relationship and she immediately begins to notice strange things about the farm and family including a picture on the wall that looks like it could be her even though Jake insists it is a picture of him as a child.
As they make their way home, the girlfriend finds herself lost in a landscape where nothing and no one are what they seem to be.
The storytelling in the original novel, which earned Reid a Shirley Jackson Award nomination in 2016, is nightmarish in its imagery, and it looks as though Kaufman has managed to capture them beautifully on the screen.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things is set to premiere on Netflix on September 4, 2020. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know if you’ll be watching in the comments!
