Platinum Dunes Are Aiming To Give Fans the Best Friday the 13th Film Ever

Written by Patti Pauley

Ever since the beautifully put-together 2003 reboot of Tobe Hooper’s iconic Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it seems the production company Platinum Dunes has a blood-thirsty taste for breathing new life into horror classics for a new generation to enjoy. From Amityville Horror (2005), to Nightmare On Elm Street (2010), and but of course, Friday the 13th in 2009, the reboot film factory has encountered some hits and misses regarding these horror movie essentials. However, speaking on solely Friday the 13th, the reboot of the 1980 slasher flick was done very well and left me personally, wanting more.

Now in case you’ve been living under a rock, you’re well aware that a sequel to the 2009 reboot is well on its way set to hit theaters October next year. The script by Aaron Guzikowski and Nick Antoska with The Crazies’ Breck Eisner in talks to direct. Even tho the film is facing some legal challenges, Dunes is insisting that the film WILL be made. As a matter of fact, in an interview with Variety while promoting Ouija: Orgin of Evil, Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form commented on Friday the 13th assuring fans that they are aiming to provide fans with the ‘best Friday film possible’. Fuller explained he wanted to bridge the gap between old and new audiences of the film by giving nods to previous films, while at the same time delivering something that wouldn’t confuse any new goers to the franchise.

Fuller and Form to Variety:

Fuller: This is the 13th “Friday the 13th” and on some level that’s kind of magical that we are lucky enough to make the 13th “Friday the 13th” movie. The challenges are you don’t want to alienate the people who come to see the first 12 but at the same time you don’t want your audience who haven’t seen the first 12 to feel like I’ve missed out on all of this and I’m not coming to see the 13th film. That’s where and why we were lucky enough to get Aaron Guzikowski, who is an amazing writer and who saw a way to bridge those two audiences and make a way a movie where if you haven’t seen a “Friday the 13th” movie you know exactly what is going on and if you have seen one, you are going to be smiling the whole way through because there are nods to everything that you know but it is not imperative that you know those things to enjoy the film. We have made plenty of Slasher movies and what excites us about this one is that our characters aren’t just meat for Jason to butcher. These are real characters which will hopefully make the bond with the audience that much stronger because you really care about the people in this film.

Form: But when its time for Jason to do his business…He does it and we will not let anyone down because when it is time it’s..

Fuller: It’s unrelenting.

Friday the 13th is currently targeting a release date of October 13th, 2017.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
