Here’s Who Robert Englund Thinks Could Replace Him as Freddy Krueger

Published

on

The torch of Freddy Krueger – is it time to be passed? It was tried once a few years back and failed miserably. There’s no need to go into detail; you know exactly what I’m talking about, and I’m not one to bring up old wounds. But maybe Freddy Krueger has life in him yet.

And if Robert Englund has anything to say about it, he would be played by Kevin Bacon.

Let’s not go insane just yet, though. There’s not even an inkling of an official announcement of this happening. So cool your jets, Benny. This is just something that the veteran actor revealed he has heard through gossip.

Cinema Blend reports that the former incarnation of Krueger had this to say:

Well the gossip I’ve heard, and I don’t know how valid this is, but there has been some talk about using, or perhaps he’s been approached, Kevin Bacon. Yeah. I think that would be great. He’s in one of my favorite little horror movies, Stir of Echoes, and you should check it out if you haven’t seen in. And I just think Kevin’s the right size. I think he respects horror movies. He doesn’t make fun of them. I think it would be real interesting.

This isn’t a total shocker, as Bacon has expressed his interest in playing the character after a fan Tweeted that they’d like to see Bacon take over as Krueger. This may be where the whole rumor mill started churning, and it’s more than likely just that – a rumor.

Still, it’s a nice thought, and it’s made even better that Englund is in favor of it. But if there ever was a time for a reboot, I think it’s now. New Line has just revived new life into Stephen King’s It, and in recent years the quality and reputation for the horror genre as a whole has been on an upward trend. Strike while the iron’s hot, they say. While horror hasn’t ever really gone out of style, I think it’d be hard to disagree that it’s definitely burning hot right now. It Follows, Get Out, Split…the numbers don’t lie.

Let’s also get something straight: reboots aren’t going anywhere, so you may as well get used to them now if you haven’t already. And with this being the case, it’s only a matter of time before Freddy gets a new makeover. So when the time comes, who is it going to be?

Let’s discuss. In the meantime, I’m firing up my VHS player and watching me some Elm Street. You’re all invited.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
