Bill Murray Is Willing to Return for New ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel

Published

on

Pretty much everyone likes 1984’s original Ghostbusters, as it’s considered a classic for a reason. 1989’s Ghostbusters II has a much weaker reputation, although I’ve always loved it. Prince Vigo is an awesome villain, and the pink mood slime is hilarious.

That said, to call 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot divisive would be an understatement. Putting aside those who didn’t like it because the lead team was now women, many longtime fans were turned off by the change in style of humor and overall attitude.

With Ghostbusters 2016 coming up short of expectations at the box office, Sony is now preparing to release a new Ghostbusters project directed by Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan. Details are scarce, but the film is a sequel to Ghostbusters II.

For years and years, reports circulated that the primary reason behind a proper Ghostbusters III never happening with the original team was Bill Murray not wanting to return. As Murray tells Indie Wire though, he’s perfectly fine with coming back.

“This franchise paid for my son’s college. We made this thing. We are the caretakers of it. It’s a great thing and it was a really fun movie to make. It’s a real movie with some really funny stuff in it.” Murray also addressed the aforementioned reports about him.

“For years, they said, ‘We can’t make another “Ghostbusters” because Bill Murray won’t change the deal he made in 1984.’ Well, no, I never did. And you know what? They made the movie. You’re the new guys, I’m the old guy. It was good enough for the other people so it’s going to have to be good enough for you.”

As for why Murray agreed to make a cameo in Paul Feig’s divisive reboot: “I was in that movie just because they asked me, and I knew if I said no, I was saying I didn’t support that movie. I felt like, OK, I’m going to support them because I support them as people. So I did that one and I would do this next one.”

To sum up, it doesn’t appear that Murray is really all that excited as an actor about playing Peter Venkman again, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t do Reitman and crew a solid by appearing and giving this new sequel the classic team’s stamp of approval.

Watch ‘The Burning’ At The Location Where It Was Filmed

Published

on

Fangoria is reporting that fans of the 1981 slasher The Burning will be able to have a screening of the film at the location where it was filmed. The movie is set at Camp Blackfoot which is actually the Stonehaven Nature Preserve in Ransomville, New York.

This ticketed event will take place on August 3. Guests will be able to take a tour of the grounds as well as enjoy some campfire snacks along with the screening of The Burning.

The Burning

The film came out in the early ’80s when teen slashers were being churned out in magnum force. Thanks to Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th, filmmakers wanted to get in on the low-budget, high-profit movie market and a casket load of these types of films were produced, some better than others.

The Burning is one of the good ones, mostly because of the special effects from Tom Savini who had just come off of his groundbreaking work on Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th. He declined to do the sequel because of its illogical premise and instead signed on to do this movie. Also, a young Jason Alexander who would later go on to play George in Seinfeld is a featured player.

Because of its practical gore, The Burning had to be heavily edited before it received an R-rating. The MPAA was under the thumb of protest groups and political bigwigs to censor violent films at the time because slashers were just so graphic and detailed in their gore.

Tickets are $50, and if you want a special t-shirt, that will cost you another $25, You can get all the information by visiting the On Set Cinema webpage.
