Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead has officially wrapped principal photography, placing us that much closer to more Snyder directed zombie insanity. His previous zombie outing being 2004’s Dawn of the Dead remake.
Army of the Dead has been in development hell since 2007 when it was still attached to Warner Bros. Since then Snyder has made an exclusive deal to stream it on Netflix. The streaming behemoth backed Snyder one-hundred percent with a budget up into the $90 million range.
The plot follows a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a city that has fallen to the zombies amid the apocalypse. It’s up to the rag tag group to go in and find money that was left in a safe when said city was originally evacuated.
The ensemble cast includes Dave Bautista, Chris D’Elia, Hiroyuki Sanada, Raul Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, Samantha Win, Rich Cetrone and Garrett Dillahunt. Snyder will produce with his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller and Bergen Swanson.
I’m a big fan of Syder’s Dawn of the Dead remake. At the time of its release, I recall being very much against remakes and thought nothing could be done to improve upon the Romero classic. Snyder, made it his own and created something that was visceral, funny and scary and something that actually gelled with audiences.
With principal photography out of the way, we should see see this one arrive on Netflix next year.
What do you guys think? Excited to see Snyder back mixin it up with the zombies? Let us know in the comments section.
