Zac Efron has come a long way since his Disney days starring in the High School Musical trilogy (yes, trilogy). He’s quickly become a household name by showing off his comedic chops (and a lot of finely tuned muscle), however his newest role is gaining attention from a whole new audience: the horror community.
Efron is joining the “Disney Alumni goes dark” club with a portrayal of notorious serial killer, rapist and necrophile Ted Bundy in the upcoming Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. He’s taken on some dramatic roles in the past, but this could potentially set a new standard for the young star.
A new image has emerged thanks to the glory of the internet, showcasing a behind-the-scenes pre-production look at Efron as Bundy.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile will be directed by Joe Berlinger (award-winning director of Raising Hell: The Visions of Clive Barker, Brother’s Keeper, and the Paradise Lost documentary series) and was written by Michael Werwie.
The script was favored on The Black List, an online network for budding and working screenwriters to showcase their scripts and connect with potential buyers.
The film follows the perspective of Bundy’s longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins, Okja) who turned Bundy in to the police after years of denial about his suspicious (and truly sinister) activities.
John Malkovich has been cast as Judge Edward Cowart who presided over the extensive murder trail in 1979, eventually serving Bundy with a death sentence.
As previously mentioned, the film is currently in the pre-production stages, but we will be sure to keep you updated.
