Undertaker is a staple in the WWE. Before that, his time in WWF was unmatched in my opinion. It was a time in my youth personally where I was obsessed with wrestling and naturally that was because of the horror angle that The Dead Man brought to wrestling. I immediately became a huge fan and The Undertaker was some of my earliest memories as a fan. I wasn’t alone in that. Undertaker was a tremendous fan favorite. That love extended outside of just his fans. His peers all loved him too. Tonight, The Undertaker revealed live that he will rest in peace and retire from wrestling.
In a historic moment The Undertaker took the stage at Survivor Series and announced “My time has come to let The Undertaker rest in peace.” before lowering his head. The crowd exploded into applause. The video that followed was a heart breaker. All of his peers including Batista, John Cena, Edge and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin all paid their heartfelt response. But the boss, Vince McMahon seemed the most choked up of all. McMahon went on to say that people who say “nothing lasts for ever” are all wrong because the legacy of The Undertaker will inded last forever. He isn’t wrong.
In The Undertaker’s touching final moments in the ring a hologram of the iconic Paul Bearer made an appearance too.
It’s an emotional night in the world of wrestling and Twitter has had a supportive outpouring of well-wishes and memories shared of The Dead Man. The Undertaker was singular. He will be missed and can never be duplicated.
