Like many horror fans, I love a good slasher flick, preferably with a few wicked kills. One of my favorites to emerge from the 2000s decade was 2003’s Wrong Turn, which pitted a group of stranded friends against a cannibalistic clan of monstrous backwoods killers.
Recognizable genre faces Eliza Dushku, Desmond Harrington, Jeremy Sisto, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lindy Booth and Kevin Zegers played the potential victims, and while Wrong Turn wasn’t a huge box office hit, it did well enough to spawn a franchise of direct to DVD sequels.
Most of the Wrong Turn sequels have their share of fans, although Wrong Turn 2 (featuring rocker turned actor Henry Rollins, and directed by Joe Lynch) tends to get the most love. Now though, it looks like the franchise might be in line for a reboot.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Constantin Film is readying a “new incarnation” of Wrong Turn, possibly a reboot or remake. In this new project, a group of unfortunate friends hiking the Appalachian Trail is reportedly confronted by mountain people dubbed “The Foundation.”
While many fans understandably get annoyed by how quickly horror properties get remade or rebooted nowadays, in Wrong Turn’s case, this might be for the best. Parts 5 and 6 really tapered off in fan support, but the franchise concept remains a great one for thrills and chills.
