Back in 2014, What We Do in the Shadows granted audiences a hilarious look into the (after)life of vampires sharing a flat in New Zealand. The horror-comedy’s wild popularity spawned a spinoff series titled Wellington Paranormal as well as an upcoming American spinoff series for FX.
FX has so graciously released a trailer for their series that introduces a whole new cast of characters as they navigate the trials and tribulations of being undead in Staten Island, New York.
At a Comic-Con Panel this past year, writer and executive producer Paul Simms explained that “We wanted the idea that the vampires had been — maybe 200 years ago — sent to conquer America, but had sort of lost their way and forgotten … They’d gotten to New York, and that’s where the boat dropped them off, and they never went any further and before they knew it, a lot of time had passed.”
The new trailer not only introduces us to a new set of killer characters, but it brings in a new class of vampire as well: the energy vampire. They just might be the worst monsters of all, and you’ve probably already met one.
From executive producers Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows stars Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Toast of London), Kayvan Novak (Four Lions, Syriana), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends), and Harvey Guillen (The Magicians, The Internship).
Brilliantly, Waititi (who both directed and starred in the film) will return to direct the series.
What We Do in the Shadows airs on FX beginning March 27, 2019
