As is often the case at any given time, there are so many horror movie remakes in the works that it’s almost impossible to even keep track of them all. Classics like Stephen King’s It, Gremlins and Ghostbusters are all set to return to the big screen, and now the wolves are coming out to play.
Bloody Disgusting reports tonight that Emaji Entertainment has scored the rights to remake Joe Dante’s 1981 flick The Howling, widely considered to be one of the very best werewolf films of all time. The site says it’s the first in a series of films based on established properties that Emaji will soon be bringing to the table.
After a bizarre and near fatal encounter with a serial killer, a television newswoman is sent to a remote mountain resort in The Howling, wherein she discovers that the residents may not be what they seem. The film spawned seven sequels, the most recent of which went straight-to-video back in 2011.
Considering The Howling is known for having some seriously awesome practical effects, here’s to hoping that Emaji stays true to the spirit of Dante’s original. Wishful thinking, to say the least.
