David Harbour, one of the adult stars of Stranger Things, reveals that we most likely won’t be getting Stranger Things 3 in 2018. In an interview with Variety, one of the heroes of Hawkins says that 2019 is a lot more reasonable. The reason? The Duffer Brothers simply need time to work on the scripts.
And I say give them all the time they need – they’ve been doing an incredible job thus far.
I mean, one of the things that’s annoying for fans is that it takes us a long time to do them … Like, you probably won’t get [Season 3] until sometime in 2019. But also part of the thing is, like any good thing, they need time. And those guys work so hard. I mean, they just sit in their apartment and write for 12, 14 hours a day.
In this current age of instant gratification and immediate streaming, this may be distressing for many fans. Others may share their concerns over the fact that the young stars of the show are quickly coming of age, and will not be young forever.
If that’s a real concern for the cast and crew, Harbour doesn’t show it at all. In fact, he states that much of the success of the second season comes from not repeating the same thing over and over.
We sort of threw out the mold a little bit and started with this stuff afresh … we’re gonna continue to take risks. I mean, the horror show could have been that, you know, Jim Hopper shows up saying catchphrases like mornings are for coffee and contemplation like every scene and we just sort of trot out all the greatest hits. And thankfully we didn’t do that, I think that’s part of the reason why audiences respond … we love these characters and we wanna see them grow and develop and change and encounter new things.
With this in mind, any feelings of anxiousness towards Strangers Things 3 should be instantly quelled after hearing what Harbour has to say. It seems as if everyone on the production has a good head on their shoulders in regards to what works and what doesn’t. What’s a little waiting, then, if it means the quality of the show will continue?
As far as we know, Harbour will return for Stranger Things 3 in 2019.
