What We Do in the Shadows has already become a bona fide horror comedy classic since its Sundance premiere in 2014. Today, FX gives us a Halloween treat by releasing two brief teasers for the upcoming show based on the feature film!
The show is bound to be a hit as evidenced in the “Sir, you can’t be throwing ancient coins at me” piece of dialogue. The boys haven’t lost their touch, it seems.
The series will take place in Staten Island, New York. In a Panel at Comic-Con earlier this month, writer and executive producer Paul Simms said:
“We wanted the idea that the vampires had been — maybe 200 years ago — sent to conquer America, but had sort of lost their way and forgotten … They’d gotten to New York, and that’s where the boat dropped them off, and they never went any further and before they knew it, a lot of time had passed.”
Which means that our original vampires may not come crawling out of their coffins during this season. New Zealand is extremely far from Staten Island.
But we were given a sliver of hope when Jermaine Clement, who was responsible and starred in the original What We Do in the Shadows, said they would show up “Only if something really disastrous happens. It has to be of incredible import.”
So he may be dropped hints or just playing coy. We’ll see when What We Do in the Shadows premiers on FX in the spring of 2019.
