While many of the episodes don’t hold up today, Nickelodeon’s 1990s hit anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark? served as a kid-friendly gateway into horror for many budding fans, myself included. Such is the love for the property that it just got a reboot.

The reboot, which tells a single story over a short season in the style of say a Channel Zero or American Horror story, as opposed to a new story every episode, premiered last Friday. Episode two airs this coming Friday at 7pm EST on Nickelodeon.

For those who missed out on watching live, or simply forgot to set their DVRs, the Are You Afraid of the Dark? reboot’s debut episode is now available to watch online, absolutely free. The full episode, entitled “Submitted for Approval,” can be viewed below.

The reboot, which is really more like a miniseries, sadly only runs for three episodes total. Thankfully, each episode is at least 1-hour long (about 45 minutes without the commercials), as opposed to running 30 minutes each like the original series.

Reviews for Are You Afraid of the Dark’s reboot have been good, with most critics believing it manages genuine scares despite being targeted at a young audience, much like the classic show. Hopefully this won’t be the last we see of The Midnight Society.
