September 18th is almost here, and that means Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Ratched will soon make its big debut on Netflix, and the streaming platform has dropped an all-new extended trailer in anticipation of the premiere.
Starring Sarah Paulson in the titular role of Nurse Mildred Ratched, the story takes place long before the events of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest take place in an attempt to explain why and how the character became who she was. The moral and ethical questions are deep, and Ratched’s history seems to be filled with them.
The year is 1947, and a new experimental procedure is becoming all the rage in psychiatric circles. It’s called a “lobotomy” and it seems the hospital where Ratched is employed is just dying to perform as many as they can. It also looks like the nurse has taken it upon herself to perform the procedure, with or without the doctor or patient approval.
Paulson is joined by an outstanding cast in the series including Charlie Carver (Teen Wolf), Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct), Judy Davis (Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadow), Sophie Okonedo (The Secret Life of Bees), Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction), and Vincent D’Onofrio (The Cell).
With its sweeping, orchestral score and the vibrant color-schemes, this series could very well be one for the books.
Take a look at the trailer below, and let us know if you’ll be watching when Ratched drops on Netflix on September 18, 2020!
