While it may not be the juggernaut of popularity that it once was, AMC’s The Walking Dead continues to be one of the most-watched shows in all of TV, including both broadcast and cable programming.
The Walking Dead returns tonight for the second half of season 8, but we already know season 9 is coming, and a new report carries with it potentially upsetting implications for the next batch of episodes.
According to Variety, TWD mainstay Lauren Cohan (Maggie) is currently without a contract in place to return for season 9. Introduced during season 2, Maggie has gone on to become one of the most popular characters on the show.
While Cohan is said to still be in talks concerning a season 9 return, it might be telling that she’s just booked the lead role in an ABC dramedy pilot called Whiskey Cavalier. If that pilot gets picked up to series, it might be impossible for Cohan to also return to TWD.
With Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) soon to depart The Walking Dead – and several other major cast members likely to die before season 8 is over – losing Maggie could potentially be a huge blow to TWD going forward. Stay tuned to iHorror for further updates.
