Last year we reported Lionsgate forking out on a remake of the great cult Sci-Fi/Horror movie Cube (1997) named Cubed. It was exciting news as producing the movie would be Roy Lee long with Jon Spaihts, a man who really knows his Sci-Fi, being famous for his work co-writing the movie Prometheus (2012). They also decided to employ the help of Saman Kesh, a seemingly up and coming director who made a name for himself among the Hollywood big wigs with his short movie Controller.
Unfortunately, it all seemed a bit too good to be true. Thanks to Joblo.com bagging an interview with Spaihts we can pretty much say it is on the back-burner for the time being. In his words “its resting right now as we look for a new creative direction”.
Maybe taking the remake seriously is a good thing, as the fans don’t want to see another pile of shit rehash. Not so the case for the supposed director as when Spaihts was asked if Kesh will still be in the chair he said. “To be honest, I’ll have to check. I don’t know.” – Lol, I’ll have to check? Yeah right, that means a no then. As if Spaihts wouldn’t know who would be directing. We have asked Kesh to comment but he is yet to reply.
Oh well, I’m off to watch the original again, we’ll keep you guys updated.
