A new trailer dropped today for William Eubank’s Underwater, a horror thriller on the ocean floor.

When an undersea exploration laboratory is rocked by an earthquake, the crew find themselves in a fight for survival. Not only has the lab’s shell been compromised, but something mysterious and deadly has awakened and it will take all of their cunning to survive.

Eubank (The Signal) directed the film based on a script by Brian Duffield (The Babysitter) and Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan).

The film stars Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper), T.J. Miller (Deadpool), Vincent Cassel (Brotherhood of the Wolf), Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones), John Gallagher, Jr. (Hush), Mamoudou Athie (The Circle), and Gunner Wright (J. Edgar).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stewart described the film as a “survival movie” and that the “underlying story of [disrupting] something that really should be left in its natural state, and what you can unearth — that’s what keeps it scary.”

The project began filming in 2017, and despite no reports of trouble in production, it is only now preparing for release in theaters with a date set for January 10, 2020.

In fact, Underwater is one of the handful of films that has seemingly survived the Disney/Fox merger intact.
