Two Sentence Horror Stories, a horror anthology series, is set to premiere on August 8, 2019 at 9 pm EST according to Deadline.
The series, inspired by the viral popularity of two sentence horror stories and their ability to tap into universal fears, will consist of eight half-hour episodes specifically designed to draw upon those universal themes.
The internet became completely enthralled with the idea of two sentence horror stories a few years ago. Thousands flocked to platforms like Reddit to share their own in an attempt to terrify readers in as few words as possible, and it seemed articles compiling them filled our news feeds.
For example you might remember:
“I can’t move, breathe, speak or hear and it’s so dark all the time. If I knew it would be this lonely, I would have been cremated instead.”
“I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, ‘Daddy check for monsters under my bed.’ I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, ‘Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.'”
Or how about:
“There was a picture in my phone of me sleeping. I live alone.”
Most of these worked so well because they were written in the first person, putting the reader directly into the driver’s seat to experience the feeling of the story themselves.
It will be interesting to see how, or if, that fear will translate to the screen.
The CW series will attempt to tap into that same magic, with a cast including Nicole Kang (Batwoman), Jim Parrack (True Blood), Greta Quispe (New Amsterdam), Kate Jennings (Notorious) and Aleyse Shannon (Charmed) among others.
Mark your calendars for August 8, 2019 and get ready to try out Two Sentence Horror Stories for yourself!
