While no one is ever going to dub Tremors one of the best franchises in horror history, it’s certainly a lot of fun. It’s crazy how much mileage Hollywood has gotten out of the Graboid monsters, and eventually their nemesis Burt Gummer (Michael Gross).

Burt was of course just a supporting character to stars Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward’s Val and Earl in the original Tremors film, but by Tremors 3: Back to Perfection, Gross’ oddly charming survivalist gun-lover had graduated to full-on lead star of the series.

Sure, not all the Tremors entries are exactly home runs, but the formula is solid enough that all of them are enjoyable enough watches. Clearly, lots of people are renting them, as the new sequels just keep on arriving on DVD and Blu-Ray via Universal.

Gross first confirmed he was returning to star in Tremors 7 near the end of 2018, and now he’s let fans know via Facebook that the film begins shooting next month in Thailand. It’s unclear when Tremors 7 will release, although 2020 seems a safe bet.

It’s crazy to consider, but 2020 will also mark the 30th anniversary of the first Tremors. One assumes the makers of Tremors 7 will do their best to celebrate with a great new entry. Now, if only that Kevin Bacon TV series hadn’t gotten prematurely canceled.
