We were teased with a few mini-trailers back in February, but now it’s time for the real thing. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark has received a first full-length trailer, and it looks like it’s living up to the “scary” portion of its title.
Directed by André Øvredal and shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is adapted from the horrific trilogy of books by Alvin Schwartz that featured terrifying illustrations by Stephen Gammell.
Producer Guillermo Del Toro had previously confirmed that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark would use the original illustrations as inspiration for the design of the film. We can see that he wasn’t lying – those images look pretty dang similar to the illustrated nightmares that haunted us in our youth.
The film follows a group of teens that band together to solve the mystery of macabre deaths in their small town. The ensemble cast includes Zoe Colletti (Annie), Austin Abrams (The Walking Dead), Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight), and Natalie Ganzhorn (The Stanley Dynamic).
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will hit theaters on August 9, 2019. You can check out the brand new trailer and poster below. And be sure to tell us what you think in the comments!
