For the Sake of Vicious was one of my favorite films from 2020’s Fantasia Festival (you can read my full review here). Co-directors Gabriel Carrer (The Demolisher) and Reese Eveneshen (Defective) — who also served as the film’s production designers, editor, and composer… read our interview here — effectively stir up tension and ramp up the action, pinning you to your seat for the full-on battle royale that takes up the last 40 minutes of the film.
Starring Lora Burke (Poor Agnes), Nick Smyth (Flashpoint), and Colin Paradine (Defective), For the Sake of Vicious follows Romina, an overworked nurse and single mother, who returns home from her late shift on Halloween night to find a maniac hiding out with a bruised and beaten hostage. When an unexpected wave of violent intruders descends upon her home, the trio realize the only way out of the situation is to work together and fight for their survival.
A new trailer has just been released, and it showcases the vicious fury found in the film. For the Sake of Vicious is an incredible home invasion horror and a tight action thriller that — as an added bonus — barrels its way into the category of “films that happen on Halloween”.
Shot over a period of an intensive 15 days in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada (my hometown, fun fact), the film fights tooth and nail. It was shot in a (soon-to-be-demolished) house, and due to the small quarters, there’s a tight intimacy that fuels the fire of each fight (with the actors performing all their own stunts).
At any rate, if you’re curious to check it out for yourself, you can find the new trailer and poster below.
For the Sake of Vicious will be presented in Select Theaters April 16, On Demand April 20, and released on Blu-ray on May 4.
