After a one week absence, American Horror Story: Freak Show returns to FX tonight, the eighth episode of the season premiering at 10pm EST. Titled ‘Blood Bath,’ the episode is likely to be just that, and we know for sure that a brand new freak will be joining the established stable of human oddities.
Tonight’s episode marks the American Horror Story debut of actress Chrissy Metz, playing a character named Ima. Though details about the character haven’t yet been revealed, the images released suggest that she’ll be the Freak Show’s resident ‘fat lady,’ which was an attraction not uncommon on the sideshow circuit.
Billed as ‘596 Pounds of Feminine Charm,’ real-life performer Ella Milbauer was likely an inspiration for the character of Ima. Milbauer toured with the Ringling Circus beginning in the late 1950s, right around the time that these so-called freak shows were waning in popularity – which is precisely the point of time we’re at, on the show.
Next Wednesday night’s episode will be titled ‘The Fat Lady Sings,’ so it’s likely that we’ll have to wait a week to learn what Ima is all about.
In ‘Blood Bath,’ which again airs tonight, recent disappearances around camp raise Ethel’s (Kathy Bates) suspicion of Elsa (Jessica Lange), while Gloria (Frances Conroy) makes a last ditch effort to contain Dandy’s (Finn Wittrock) bloodlust.
