Djinn, the latest film from Tobe Hooper, had a limited release around Halloween in 2013. It has since debuted in a few other countries, but most waiting for a chance to see it have been out of luck. That luck is about to change in a couple months, however, if some newly surfaced information is any indication.
Early critical response to Djinn was not particularly favorable, but as anyone who knows their way around the genre can attest, early critical response is sometimes meaningless.
The synopsis of Djinn is as follows:
From horror legend Tobe Hooper – Desperate to put the traumatic loss of their infant child behind them, an Emirati couple return home – but home doesn’t provide the comfort they seek. Soon they are tormented by unexplainable events and begin to question if their neighbors are human, or the sinister, shape-shifting demons – the Djinn.
The last Hooper feature to see U.S. DVD release was Mortuary in 2015. His entries to Masters of Horror were in ’05 and ’06. His film Destiny Express Redux appeared at SXSW in 2009.
Djinn was written by David Tully. It stars Aiysha Hart, Razane Jammal, and Ahd.
