Much like Guillermo Del Toro’s films combined fairy tale elements with horror, the latest film from Jimena Monteoliva does exactly that as well. To Kill the Dragon is also a beautiful and terrifying analogy for the real horrors and beauty in life, but through the lens of Monteoliva’s fresh new vision.
The synopsis for To Kill the Dragon goes like this:
The nightmarish tale of two siblings cruelly separated as kids. The youngest, Elena, is confined to the world of darkness, where she leads a miserable life. While the eldest, Facundo, remains in paradise, where he lives a peaceful life as a doctor with his wife and two daughters. 25 years later, the two are reunited to face the family tragedy that separated them.
The film is filled with a lot of haunting visions that are the sort of thing you worry about being in your room as your reach to turn on the nearest light switch. But, it manages to scare the hell out of you between these really charming and wonderful beats.
To Kill the Dragon is out now on VOD and is definitely worth a look.
