Hey Tightwads! It’s Tightwad Terror Tuesday again, and that means free movies. Excited?
A few years back, Elijah Wood (Aka Frodo Baggins) blew everyone’s minds with his performance as a mannequin-obsessed serial killer in Maniac. This is not that movie, but it’s the 1980 proto-slasher upon which it was based.
This Maniac was directed by William Lustig and stars Joe Spinell as the titular maniac. It also stars the lovely and talented Caroline Munro. It’s more of a straightforward splatter flick than the artsy remake, which is both good and bad depending on how you look at it. One thing is for sure; Maniac is a bona-fide horror classic, so you should go here to Vudu and watch it.
Teeth is a 2007 movie about a chaste high school girl who discovers that she has an unusual medical condition called Vagina Dentata, which basically means that she has teeth in her lady parts. She turns this curse into a blessing as she deals with all of the aggressive and overbearing males in her life.
Teeth is billed as a horror comedy, but men probably won’t laugh too hard over it – they’ll be too busy squirming. Women should find it hysterical, though. It’s a modern classic that should be seen by everyone at least once, so head over here to TubiTV and check it out.
Just as one might expect, Sleeping Beauty is a retelling of the old fairy tale about a young princess cursed to slumber until her prince can kiss her. Oh, and the prince has to battle through hordes of monsters and an evil queen to get to her.
This 2014 joint is an Asylum production, and it looks and feels like one. It’s also a family affair, with director Casper Van Dien casting his daughter in the lead role, and playing her father, with his then-wife Catherine Oxenberg portraying the mother. Two other Van Dien kids pop in as well, and Olivia d’Abo, Michael York, and Finn Jones round out the cast. Check out Sleeping Beauty here at Peacock.
No, not Gremlins. Gremlin is a 2017 movie about a family that receives a mysterious gift from an uncle – a tiny monster. The monster starts killing, and the father figures out that the only way to get rid of it is to break the curse by re-gifting it to someone else who he loves. It’s a never-ending cycle of evil.
Gremlin is a fun, albeit derivative, little monster movie. It’s not as feel-good as it’s similarly-named (and themed) brethren, but it’s a schlocky good time. Catch Gremlin – if you dare – here at Crackle.
The Ninth Passenger
The Ninth Passenger is about a group of students who take a party cruise on a boat. In the middle of their partying, however, one of the passengers – the Ninth Passenger – starts to pick them off, one by one.
This 2018 horror/comedy/mystery is not Agatha Christie, but it’ll do in a pinch. It’s mainly just a bunch of unlikable characters getting killed on the high seas. If that sounds like your thing, you can find The Ninth Passenger here on Vudu.
