Hey Tightwads! It’s almost your favorite month…October! Here’s a bunch of free movies to get you over the hump.
Tourist Trap is about a group of kids on a road trip who find themselves stranded at a roadside amusement park being stalked by the owner, a crazy mask-wearing nutjob who seems to have the ability to control his mannequins and puppets with his mind.
This 1979 movie is a bit like a mixture between The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Carrie, but it’s a great mixture that makes it more than just another slasher movie. Tourist Trap is the debut film from director David Schmoeller, a talented fellow who would go on to make Crawlspace, The Seduction, and the Puppetmaster movies. Tourist Trap is kind of an underappreciated classic, so go and appreciate it here on TubiTV.
House of 1000 Corpses
House of 1000 Corpses is the 2003 debut movie from polarizing rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie about a group of kids who get stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time while driving across the country.
Yes, it’s derivative of a lot of other movies, and no, it’s not nearly as good as Zombie’s second movie, The Devil’s Rejects, but House of 1000 Corpses is a lot of retro slashery, splattery grindhouse fun. Plus, it’s got a cast that includes the usual Rob Zombie suspects like Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon Zombie, Walton Goggins, and Karen Black. Oh, and hey, that’s Rainn Wilson and Chris Hardwick, too! Check it out right here on Vudu.
The Keeping Room
The Keeping Room is a 2014 western thriller set in the final days of the civil war about a trio of women who, left alone while the men are all off fighting, are forced to protect their southern home from a nefarious pair of rogue Union soldiers who have broken off from their unit.
Essentially, The Keeping Room is a home invasion movie, but it’s made unique by the shifting sense of morality and the ever-changing vulnerability of the characters. It’s basically a more brutal telling of The Beguiled. Have a look at The Keeping Room here at TubiTV.
Wolf Creek is about a trio of vacationers that gets stranded while exploring the Australian outback. They have a bigger problem, though; the only person around to help them is a psychopathic killer.
Wolf Creek came out in 2005, at the height of the Torture Porn craze, so it’s a brutal movie. And John Jarratt is terrifying as the psycho Outbacksman. Check out Wolf Creek here at Vudu.
I’m being kind of an ass for including this here, because this is not James Wan’s Malignant from this year that everyone is talking about. This is a 2019 movie with the same name. It’s an anthology of short films, all based around the internet. It was originally called Dark Web, so not sure why it’s here as Malignant. Maybe to fool people like I did?
Like any anthology, the segments vary in quality and creepiness. But they’re short, so if you don’t like one, you don’t have to wait long for the next. Work your way through Malignant here at TubiTV.
