Hey Tightwads! How’s it hanging? Will this batch of free movies make it better? Let’s find out…
Phenomena is about a teenage girl who has the ability to use her mind to communicate with insects. She is sent to a boarding school where a string of murders promptly breaks out, and her insect friends provide her with clues as to who the culprit is.
Phenomena was directed in 1985 by Dario Argento, and along with Suspiria, it is probably one of the filmmaker’s most famous movies. It also features cool performances from Jennifer Connelly and Donald Pleasence. Check out Phenomena here at Popcornflix.
The Core is a 2003 sci-fi/thriller about the end of the world. Disasters are occurring all over the globe, and it’s all because the Earth’s core has stopped spinning. So, a team of scientists drills down to the center of the Earth with a nuclear device hoping to start the core spinning again.
The Core is one of those movies with laughably bad science. And that makes it a lot of fun, as long as you don’t take it as seriously as it takes itself. The cast to this schlockfest includes such reputatble thespians as Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Richard Jenkins, Delroy Lindo, and Bruce Greenwood. See The Core here at Crackle.
Pet is about a creepy guy who stalks a high school acquaintance and abducts her, holding her captive in a cage below the animal shelter at which he works. Unfortunately for him, his prisoner has changed a lot since high school, and she holds a few secrets of her own.
This 2016 sleeper is part The Silence of the Lambs-esque psychological horror and part Saw-like torture porn, and it holds plenty of twists and turns. Dominic Monaghan stars as the shady stalker. Catch Pet right here at TubiTV.
Conjuring the Devil
Conjuring the Devil is a 2020 movie about a priest who alienates most of his parishioners. One woman stands up to him and he is ousted from the church, and he conjures up a demonic nun to get his revenge.
No, Conjuring the Devil is not part of The Conjuring’s universe, despite its title and the inclusion of a demonic nun. It’s a “mockbuster,” surprisingly not by The Asylum, that tries to trick people into thinking it. It’s comically bad, made worse by the fact that it’s almost 2 hours long (mockbusters should stay under 80 minutes, don’t you think?). If you feel lucky or are a glutton for punishment, you can find Conjuring the Devil here at Vudu.
Halloweed is about a young man whose father was an infamous serial killer. To escape his familial reputation, he moves to a small town with his stoner brother. When a string of murders occurs in their new neighborhood, the guys wonder if a copycat killer has followed them there.
This 2016 horror comedy is exactly the movie that one would expect from a title like Halloweed. The mystery is predictable and the murders are purposely stereotypical. But there are a lot of good pot jokes. And the cast is loaded with cameos by big names like Danny Trejo, Tom Sizemore, Ray Wise, and (of course) Jason Mewes. Have a laugh with Halloweed here at Popcornflix.
