Hey Tightwads! Tightwad Terror Tuesday is back, did you miss it? Maybe not, but don’t miss this week’s batch of free movies…
Grace: The Possession
Grace: The Possession is about a young woman, of course named Grace, who heads off to college. She begins to have blackouts, and doctors tell her that it may be a stress-related mental condition. With the help of her grandmother, she learns that the truth is supernatural…and far more terrifying.
More of a point-of-view movie than found footage, this 2014 possession flick manages to be creative while still holding onto the typical tropes of the subgenre. And it gets extra points for having Lin Shaye onboard as the grandmother. Check out Grace: The Possession here at TubiTV.
Cut! is a 2014 movie about an aspiring director who, along with an ex-con partner, sets out to make a reality-based horror movie in which they scare real people while the cameras roll. When things go too far and one of their marks actually dies, the filmmakers change their game plan, realizing that killing on film is the only real way to make a true horror flick.
Sure, it’s a setup that seems obvious, but Cut! pulls it off and winds up being a pretty entertaining watch. It’s graphic and brutal, which is only to be expected from a movie that is basically about making snuff films. Have a look at Cut! here at Vudu.
Clara is about an astrophysicist who is obsessed with discovering extraterrestrial life. When he loses his funding, he teams up with a bohemian artist, the titular Clara, to continue his research. He and Clara discover things in the stars that will change the way Earth people think about space.
Not so much horror as it is science fiction, drama, and even a little romance, this 2018 movie is gripping and moving. If you’re looking for scares, move along. But if you’re looking for wonder and fascination, take a peek at Clara here at Crackle.
Apparition is a 2019 fright flick about a ghosthunting app that brings a group of people together in an old castle with a mysterious past. They soon realize that they were not brought there by coincidence, and the castle’s history is terrifyingly connected to each of them.
Not to be confused with the similarly named movies from 2012 or 2018, or even the short from 1903, this Apparition is a little predictable, but still packs a punch. Also, at just under ninety minutes, it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Catch Apparition here at TubiTV.
Planets Around Us
Also known as Planets Against Us, Planets Around Us is about an alien race who sends cyborgs to Earth to pave the way for an upcoming invasion. Their plan is discovered, however, because the cyborgs look like the son of a renown scientist, an astronaut who was killed when he visited the alien planet.
Made in 1962, Planets Around Us is a crazy example of sixties sci-fi horror. It’s an Italian film, so it kind of has the feel of a movie that is imitating American fifties sci-fi. That’s not a bad thing. See Planets Around Us for yourself here at ShoutFactoryTV.
