Hey Tightwads! Are you bored with social distancing yet? Let this batch of free movies kill some of that stay-at-home time while you stay safe…
The Ring is about a journalist who is investigating the existence of a videotape that kills each viewer seven days after they watch it. Over the course of her journey, she, of course, watches the tape. As she struggles to save herself, she winds up putting everyone close to her at risk, too.
Like many early-aughts horror films, this 2002 creeper is an Americanized remake of a Japanese movie. Gore Verbinski directs, while Naomi Watts anchors the cast. You really should have already seen The Ring by now, but just in case you haven’t, or if you are ready for a re-watch, you can find it here at IMDB TV.
Dark Night is a 2016 thriller about a young man who is planning a movie theater shooting. Or, to be more precise, it’s about the handful of strangers whose lives will be irreparably changed because of his actions on that fateful night.
This experimental flick gets its title from a play on The Dark Knight Rises, which was showing at a theater in Aurora, Colorado, when a crime like the one in the film occurred in 2012. So, it’s clear from where this quick-and-dirty movie takes its inspiration. It’s more of a fascinating character study than a horror movie, but it’s disturbing nonetheless. Catch Dark Night here at TubiTV.
Meeting Evil is about a real estate agent who is down on his luck. He meets a mysterious stranger who turns out to be a serial killer. To make matters worse, the killer frames the hapless man for his crimes.
This 2012 crime thriller is a pretty run-of-the-mill affair, but it’s elevated by its cast. Samuel L. Jackson plays the killer, Luke Wilson is his luckless victim, and Leslie Bibb is the poor fellow’s wife. Check out Meeting Evil here at Crackle.
Necro Lover is about a young man who is suicidal and a young woman who has the fantasy of having sex with a dead person. Sounds like a match made in heaven, doesn’t it? And it is, at least until the boy complicates their relationship by falling in love.
Also known by the alternate title of Stiff, this 2010 movie is a quirky one. Leave your inhibitions at the door, and have a look at Necro Lover here at TubiTV.
Galaxy of Horrors
Not to be confused with Roger Corman’s Galaxy of Terror, Galaxy of Horrors is an anthology movie about a space traveler who is stuck in a malfunctioning cryogenic pod. He is forced to watch a series of science-fiction horror tales.
The segments in this 2017 compilation were curated from the Little Terrors festival, and like any anthology, some are better than others. But overall, it’s a solid collection. Visit the Galaxy of Horrors here at Vudu.
