Hey Tightwads!  It’s Tuesday again, and that means free movies from Tightwad Terror Tuesday!  Let’s do this…

Madman (1981), courtesy Jensen Farley Pictures.

Madman

Once Friday the 13th became a hit in 1980, killer camp slashers began to pop up all over the place.  In 1981, it was Madman’s turn to spill some blood.  Predictably, Madman is about a wilderness camp that is being stalked by a lunatic serial killer.

This one is pretty derivative, hitting all the same plot points and dramatic beats as Friday the 13th, but still manages to be a highly engaging movie.  The killer-at-large, Madman Marz, is no Jason Voorhees, but Madman does star the beautiful Gaylen Ross from Dawn of the Dead and Creepshow, and that’s a selling point in itself.  Madman is available here on TubiTV.

13 Ghosts (1960), courtesy Columbia Pictures.

13 Ghosts

William Castle’s 13 Ghosts is about a family who inherits a house from an eccentric dead Uncle and, along with it, a bunch of ghosts.  There are 12 ghosts in all, but the new residents soon find out that there’s room for one more.

It wouldn’t be a William Castle movie without a gimmick, and the trick here is that the audience can see the ghosts along with the characters with the help of a special viewer.  Don’t worry, the ghosts are still visible without the viewer, so if you don’t have the cardboard red-and-blue cellophane prop, you’re still okay.  This 1960 schlockfest is more camp than creep, but it’s a fun one.  Check it out right here at Crackle.

Landmine Goes Click (2015), courtesy Gravitas Ventures.

Landmine Goes Click

Landmine Goes Click is a 2015 movie about a trio of young Americans – a guy, his girlfriend, and his best friend – who are hiking in the Georgian wilderness.  The best friend steps on an old landmine, but notices before he steps off and detonates it, so he is basically trapped on that spot.  It is then that the boyfriend decides to confront him about a fling that he had with the girlfriend.

Landmine Goes Click has a pretty creative concept, and it fleshes out surprisingly well into an engrossing feature length film.  It takes a sharp turn in tone about a third of the way in, but that’s alright, because that’s about when the gimmick starts to get stale anyway.  Step on Landmine Goes Click here on Vudu.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007), courtesy Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).

The Poughkeepsie Tapes

The Poughkeepsie Tapes is about a serial killer who stalked motorists and prostitutes in the Pennsylvania/New York area.  He videotaped many of his misdeeds, and this movie purports to be made up of those tapes.

More of a documentary about the tapes than an actual found footage movie, The Poughkeepsie Tapes is violent, shocking, and disturbing.  It’s a difficult watch, but it’s so full of twists and turns that the viewer can’t stop.  The story behind it is fascinating, too; the movie was made in 2007, but shelved until a limited VOD run in 2014, and finally given a legitimate home video release in 2017.  You can see it now here at TubiTV.

Class of 1984 (1982), courtesy United Film Distribution Company (UFDC).

Class of 1984

Class of 1984 is about a music teacher who begins work at a new high school and quickly runs into trouble with the resident gang of drug dealing punks.  Made in 1982, it’s a dystopian view of American high school that was more exploitative than accurate, despite the opening title card warning that the events are based on fact.

True or not, Class of 1984 is a very entertaining movie.  It stars Perry King and Roddy McDowall, and also features a very early role by none other than Michael J. Fox (credited as Michael Fox).  Check out Class of 1984 here on ShoutFactoryTV.
