Hey Tightwads! Are you surviving the frigid winter? Maybe this batch of free movies can help warm up those cold nights…
Living up to its name, Arachnophobia is a 1990 black comedy about a South American spider that makes its way to America by stowing away on a dead body. It mates with a local spider, and a flurry of eight legged demons is unleashed upon an unsuspecting California town.
Part creature feature and part retro sci-fi flick, Arachnophobia is a blast of a movie. The all-star cast includes John Goodman, Jeff Daniels, Julian Sands, and Stuart Pankin. Check out Arachnophobia here at Vudu.
A Good Marriage
A Good Marriage is about a married couple that has enjoyed a happy twenty-five year marriage. Happy, that is, until the wife makes a sinister discovery in their garage that suggests that the man with whom she has spent most of her life is not who she thinks he is.
This suspenseful little 2014 thriller was based on a Stephen King novella, the first adapted by the legendary writer himself since the original Pet Sematary. The cast includes Joan Allen, Anthony LaPaglia, Stephen Lang, Kristen Connolly, and Cara Buono. Catch A Good Marriage here at TubiTV.
Curtains is about a movie director who commits his leading actress to a mental asylum for “research” before shooting his new film. Unfortunately for the actress, he intends to leave her there and audition new actresses for the part. And, unfortunately for the new actresses, a psycho killer starts talking them one by one.
This 1983 slasher is one of the forgotten gems of the golden age. John Vernon and Samantha Eggar star, and in a bit of meta-crediting, director Richard Ciupa is listed as Jonathan Stryker in the credits, which is the name of the fictional filmmaker in the movie. Have a look behind Curtains here at Vudu. Quick note – this is a Spanish dubbed version of the movie, subtitles are in English.
Coherence is about a dinner party that just so happens to be taking place on a night when a comet is passing suspiciously close to the Earth. When the power goes out, the party guests investigate what has happened – but the answer is horrifying.
This 2013 sci-fi thriller feels like a feature length episode of The Twilight Zone. Is fact, it shares a few plot points with the episode “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street” (which is, in my opinion, the greatest episode of the best TV show ever). Coherence takes longer to get they and isn’t quite as effective as Serling’s tight narrative, but the movie does have its moments. You can experience those moments right here at Popcornflix.
No, not Hellraiser. This is Hellmaster. Not an asylum ripoff, this 1992 is about a college professor who uses students as lab rats in an experiment that turns them into psycho killers. It goes about as well as one would think it would. This is a horror movie, after all.
There’s a reason why most people have never heard of this movie. It’s a pretty forgettable flick. It is entertaining, though, and John Saxon serves up a committed performance as the professor. See Hellmaster here at TubiTV.
