What’s up, Tightwads? It’s that time again. Here’s this week’s batch of free movies, courtesy of iHorror and Tightwad Terror Tuesday.
V/H/S Viral is the third (and so far, the last) entry into the V/H/S found footage anthology movie series. This 2014 sequel includes stories about psychotic magicians, portals to other dimensions, and skate punks fighting conjured skeletal demons.
The V/H/S movies are all kind of hit and miss, and this one is no different. The strongest segment is director Gregg Bishop’s crazy illusionist story. The other two segments are directed by Nacho Vigalondo, and Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Check out V/H/S Viral here at Vudu.
With South Korean director Bong Joon Ho’s historic best picture Oscar win for Parasite, it’s as good a time as any to check out some of the filmmaker’s earlier works. And Mother is as good of a place as any to start. It’s about a woman who is forced to prove her son’s innocence when he is accused of a brutal murder.
This 2009 movie is a tight little crime thriller, full of surprises and packed with interesting filmmaking choices. Bong Joon Ho newbies should also check out Snowpiercer, The Host, Okja, and, of course, Parasite, all of which are top notch. But you Tightwads can start with Mother right here at TubiTV.
Open Grave begins with a man waking up in a pit full of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. He makes his way to a house where he encounters a group of similarly amnesiac people, all of whom regard the rest with suspicion and paranoia. Are they all victims, or is one of them the killer?
That’s the brilliant setup to this 2013 flick. And it only gets better from there. Sharlto Copley plays the lead character who may or may not be the hero of the story. Peek into Open Grave here at Vudu.
Taboo is about a group of recent high school graduates who celebrate their achievements by playing a card game which has them anonymously reveal their darkest secrets. When they get together again the next year, one of them seems to hold a grudge against the others.
This 2002 movie seems to be just a few years behind its time – it feels like one of those hip nineties fright flicks, with a cool young cast that includes Nick Stahl, January Jones, Amber Benson, and Eddie Kaye Thomas. Catch Taboo here at Crackle.
The Wave is a 2015 Norwegian movie about a geologist who discovers that an unstable crack in a mountain is about to collapse and cause a massive tsunami that will crash into a helpless town. As disaster looms, the scientist struggles to save as many lives as he can – including those of his wife and child.
The Wave is a high-tech throwback to the days of the Irwin Allen disaster movie. It’s also directed by the awesomely named Roar Uthaug. If you’re in the mood for a character-driven action movie full of destruction, you’ll find it here at TubiTV.
