Hey Tightwads!  Guess what day it is?  Yep, it’s Tightwad Terror Tuesday, where we bring you the best free movies that the internet has to offer.  And here they are…

Tightwad Terror Tuesday – Free Movies for 12-17-19

Nightcrawler (2014), courtesy Open Road Films.

Nightcrawler about a petty thief who seems to find his calling when he picks up a video camera and begins a career as a freelance “stinger,” one of those guys who monitors the police scanner and races to crime scenes to get gory footage for news stations.  When he starts taking his new job too seriously, he goes from capturing the crime to creating it.

Nightcrawler is not only the best movie of 2014, it’s the best movie of the decade.  It’s creepy and crawly, showing both the glitz and the grime of Los Angeles.  Jake Gyllenhaal was robbed of an Oscar nom for his lead role, with Rene Russo, Bill Paxton, and Riz Ahmed providing capable support.  You need to see Nightcrawler.  And you can see it here at TubiTV.

Cold Blood (2019), courtesy Screen Media Films.

Cold Blood

Cold Blood is a 2019 thriller about a retired hitman who is living out his days in a secluded cabin next to a frigid lake.  When he comes across a wounded girl in the snow, he knows that the only way to save her is to take her to a hospital in the nearest town.  But doing that will also end his peaceful and violence-free existence.

This cold-weather tale of suspense and intrigue stars Jean Reno as the hitman, who most will recognize from his other portrayal of a hitman in Leon: The Professional.  You’ll feel the freeze in this one.  If that sounds fun, you can find Cold Blood here at Crackle.

Exeter (2015), courtesy Blumhouse Productions/Viva Pictures.

Exeter is about a group of kids that breaks into an abandoned asylum to throw a drug-fueled, all-night party.  While there, the kids unwittingly summon an entity that works its way through the group, possessing each partier one by one.

At first, this 2015 flick is a typical possession and exorcism movie.  It’s only when the demon moves from kid to kid that things go off the rails.  Oh, and it was directed by Marcus Nispel, which is never a bad thing.  Check out Exeter here at TubiTV.

Reign of Fire (2002), courtesy Touchstone Pictures.

Reign of Fire

Reign of Fire is about a man who, twenty years earlier as a child, accidentally released a dragon from the earth.  The dragon reproduced, and now the world is tormented by a tribe of flying fire-breathers.  The man teams up with a dragon hunter and a scientist to try and save the day.

This 2002 creature feature is no Game of Thrones.  For what is essentially a poor-man’s kaiju movie, Reign of Fire has an impressive cast that includes Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey, Gerard Butler, and Alice Krige.  Have a look at Reign of Fire here at Vudu.

The War of the Worlds (1953), courtesy Paramount Pictures.

The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds is the classic H.G. Wells tale about a California town that gets excited when a meteor hits near their city limits.  That excitement turns to terror when they realize that the meteor brought with it an alien invasion, one which will not stop until the earth is conquered.

There have been a handful of adaptations of the famous War of the Worlds story, this is the 1953 classic sci-fi version.  This is a must-see movie for sci-fi fans, so if you haven’t seen it, you can catch it here at Popcornflix.
