The Descent (2005), courtesy Lions Gate Films.

The Descent

The Descent is about a group of female spelunkers that sets out to explore a deep cave.  Once they are deep into the earth, they discover that they are not alone down there.  They also discover that their biggest enemy may be themselves.

Directed by the action-centric Neil Marshall in 2005, The Descent is often thought of as a kick-ass feminist horror movie because the caving team are all women, but the fact is this; women protagonists or not, The Descent is an awesome monster movie.  It’s suspenseful, exciting, and downright scary.  Dig in right here on TubiTV.

The Monster Squad (1987), courtesy TriStar Pictures.

The Monster Squad

The Monster Squad is a classic 1987 movie about Dracula’s evil plan to plunge the world into darkness.  The Count enlists the aid of a bunch of his monster buddies, but finds a formidable group of foes in a tribe of kids who call themselves The Monster Squad.  The baddies and the kids race to be the first to find an amulet that will determine the winner of their struggle for humankind.

This gateway horror staple was directed by Fred Dekker from a script that he wrote with Shane Black.  As pointed out earlier, The Monster Squad is an absolute classic of eighties children’s horror.  If you haven’t seen it, go here to Crackle and remedy that right away.

The Haunting (1999), courtesy Dreamworks Pictures.

The Haunting

The Haunting is about three people who are summoned to a mansion for a sleep study.  What the doctor in charge of the experiment doesn’t tell them is that his intent is actually to study the effects of fear on his subjects, and the house itself has a sordid and haunted history.

This is the 1999 remake of the 1963 Robert Wise classic.  Both are based on the Shirley Jackson novel The Haunting of Hill House, but Wise’s version has the subliminal chills and thrills while this remake has the big-name cast of Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liam Neeson, Lili Taylor, and Owen Wilson.  Not as effective as the original, but worth a watch if you’re into slick remakes.  Check out The Haunting here at TubiTV.

The Core (2003), courtesy Paramount Pictures.

The Core

The Core is a 2003 sci-fi/thriller about the end of the world.  Disasters are occurring all over the globe, and it’s all because the Earth’s core has stopped spinning.  So, a team of scientists drills down to the center of the Earth with a nuclear device hoping to start the core spinning again.

The Core is one of those movies with laughably bad science.  And that makes it a lot of fun, as long as you don’t take it as seriously as it takes itself.  The cast to this schlockfest includes such reputatble thespians as Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Richard Jenkins, Delroy Lindo, and Bruce Greenwood.  Catch The Core here at Popcornflix.

Butt Boy (2019), courtesy Epic Pictures.

Butt Boy

Butt Boy is about a guy who, after a routine prostate exam, discovers that he enjoys putting things in his rectum.  And he’s good at it.  When children in the neighborhood start disappearing, an astute cop thinks that he knows where they’ve gone.  And he’s right.

Surprisingly, this 2019 movie is not a porn parody.  It takes itself seriously, which is why it’s hilarious.  It’s one of those movie where the viewer hopes that what they think is happening is not happening, but it is, in fact, happening.  It’s exactly the movie it claims to be.  And it’s a riot.  Have a look at Butt Boy here at Vudu.
