Hey Tightwads! I hope you’re all keeping safe and hunkering down. To help you hunker, here’s a batch of free movies.
Terrifier is about a couple of young women who encounter a creepy clown on Halloween night. And by encounter, we mean that he stalks and brutalizes them…and one of their sisters as well.
This 2016 movie is quickly becoming a modern classic. At this point, Art the Clown is every bit as recognizable as Pennywise or Captain Spaulding. Terrifier is not for the squeamish, though. Art is a sick clown, and the movie is gruesome. If that’s your bag, you can see Terrifier right here at TubiTV.
The Sacrament is a 2013 movie about a journalist whose sister joins a weird cult. Along with two of his colleagues, he goes to visit and hopefully talk some sense into her, but soon realizes that the group is far more dangerous than he initially realized.
Directed by Ti West, The Sacrament is loosely based on the Jonestown Massacre of the late seventies. The cast includes the usual Ti West suspects like Joe Swanberg, A.J. Bowen, Amy Seimetz, and Kentucker Audley. It’s a found footage movie, so if that’s not your thing you should steer clear. Otherwise, you can find The Sacrament here at Crackle.
Elizabeth Bathory was a legendary Hungarian countess in the 16th century who reportedly would bathe in the blood of virgins in order to keep herself looking young. Chastity Bites imagines that, because of her youth retention routine, she is still alive in the 21st century and, to keep herself surrounded by virginal girls, she becomes a high school abstinence counselor. Things get complicated when a reporter for the school paper discovers her identity.
This 2013 teen horror comedy is nothing heavy, but it’s a fun little romp. And it’s a brilliantly meta script-flip on the age-old horror virgin safety trope. Catch Chastity Bites right here at Vudu.
I Saw the Devil
I Saw the Devil is about a special agent whose pregnant wife is brutally murdered by a serial killer. The officer takes it upon himself to track the killer and have his revenge, but the only way he knows to find the psychopath is to become one himself.
This 2010 Korean thriller is violent, disturbing, and revolting. It’s also a beautiful work of art. I Saw the Devil is the best Park Chan-wook movie that wasn’t made by Park Chan-wook. Check it out here at Popcornflix.
Amber Alert is about a group of kids who are driving around making a video and just happen to come across a car whose driver has been suspected of kidnapping a child. Thinking that they can help the victim by following the car until the police show up, they do just that – but the decision turns out to be a very bad one.
Obviously, this is a found footage movie, but it’s one of the more organic ones. It’s not quite as disturbing as Megan is Missing, but the plot of this 2012 movie is along the same lines. The story is a tad predictable, and the characters can be irritating at times, but at least the movie is never boring. See Amber Alert here at Vudu.
