Hey Tightwads! It’s Tuesday again, and that means more free movies from Tightwad Terror Tuesday! And here they are…
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is about a pair of loveable hillbillies named Tucker and Dale (not just a clever name) who are trying to get some rest and relaxation in at their rustic mountain cabin. Their vacation is interrupted by a group of partying kids who, one by one, meet terrible demises, with Tucker and Dale unjustly getting the blame.
This 2010 horror comedy is one of the best movies of the last decade. It subverts the cabin-in-the-woods genre while eviscerating horror stereotypes one after another. It’s hysterical. You need to see Tucker and Dale vs Evil, so if you haven’t, go here to Popcornflix and right that wrong.
Rest Stop is a 2006 straight-to-video release about a young aspiring actress who is on her way to Hollywood with her boyfriend. When they stop at a rest stop for a break from driving, the boyfriend is kidnapped by a mysterious trucker, and the actress finds herself in a fight for her life against the crazed stalker.
Rest Stop is a typical stalk-and-slice movie, but the small cast and contained setting gives it a unique vibe. Jaimie Alexander plays the struggling actress, and keep an eye out for Blossom’s Joey Lawrence in there as a police officer, too. Check out Rest Stop here at Vudu.
Truth or Die
Truth or Die is about a group of teenagers who pick on one of their classmates during a game of Truth or Dare. Months later, the gang is invited to a party thrown by the bullied kid. Yeah, it’s a revenge party. Typical slasher setup.
Originally going by the title of Truth or Dare, Truth or Die was made in 2012, so it actually predates the other (two) Truth or Dare movie(s) by about five years (but not the Madonna documentary that also shares the name). Again, it’s basically your generic slasher movie. If that’s your bag, you can find Truth or Die here at Crackle.
Slaw is about a pair of food afficionado brothers who are fed up with rude people ruining their dining experiences. So, they kidnap a bunch of the offending parties and force them to “play a game” to determine their punishment. And the punishments are all food related…specifically coleslaw related.
So, yeah, Slaw is a Saw parody. This 2017 movie is funny in a way that will make you shake your head in disbelief. It’s ridiculous, from the crazy tests to the names of the investigating detectives (Turner and Hooch). If silly satire is your thing, you could do worse. Get a heaping helping of Slaw here at TubiTV.
Top of the Food Chain
Top of the Food Chain is about a remote Canadian town whose residents are being eaten by some mysterious creature. Because of the isolation of the location, it’s up to a single Atomic Scientist/Cool Fusion Expert to figure out what’s going on and save the town.
This spoof was made in 1999, but it’s got the unmistakable vibe of a 50s sci-fi classic, with silly dialogue and over-the-top acting. Nothing that hasn’t been done before, but still a fun watch. And you can watch it here at Vudu.
