Alright Tightwads! Are you ready? It’s Tightwad Terror Tuesday again, and that means free movies! So here they are…
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Although it needs no introduction, A Nightmare on Elm Street is about a serial killer named Freddy Krueger who stalks teenagers in their dreams, killing them so that they die in real life. But you already knew that.
This is the original, classic 1984 Wes Craven movie that stars Robert Englund as Freddy and Heather Langenkamp as the final girl. It’s an absolute must-see. And you probably have. Heck, you probably own the box set. But just in case you haven’t or don’t, A Nightmare on Elm Street is right here on Vudu. And as if that’s not enough, they’ve also got Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge here, Part 3: Dream Warriors here, Part 4: The Dream Master here, and Part 5: The Dream Child here. No word on Freddy’s Dead or New Nightmare, but the first five still make for a good Freddy-a-thon.
Rob Zombie’s 31 is about a group of carnival workers that is abducted and dumped in an industrial compound. They are then forced to participate in a deadly game of cat and mouse, with the prize being their ultimate survival.
In typical Rob Zombie fashion, 31 is a triumph of style over substance. It looks and sounds great, but the story is lacking in originality. Also in typical Rob Zombie fashion, 31 stars Sheri Moon Zombie along with the usual suspects of horror lore like Malcolm McDowell and Meg Foster. This 2016 schlockfest is for Rob Zombie completists only, but if that’s you, you can find 31 here at TubiTV.
The Sound stars Rose McGowan as a skeptical paranormal investigator who uses science to debunk “hauntings,” usually explaining them away as reactions to low frequency sounds. She investigates a haunted subway station, and needless to say, her experience proves to be more than her scientific background can explain.
This 2017 spookfest is a rare combination of a modern look and a classic feel. McGowan is joined in the cast by Michael Eklund and Christopher Lloyd. If paranormal movies are your bag, check out The Sound here at Kanopy.
Office Uprising is a 2018 Crackle original about a weapons manufacturing plant whose workers are turned into murderous zombies by a strange energy drink. The uninfected fight to survive against their psychopathic coworkers.
Office Uprising comes off as a low-rent Mayhem, which in and of itself is a low-rent The Belko Experiment. It’s still an entertaining watch, and even as a clone of a clone, it’s more original than the standard vampire or slasher flick. The cool cast includes Jane Levy, Brenton Thwaites, and Zachary Levi. Catch Office Uprising here at Crackle.
Killer Fish: Deadly Treasure of the Piranha
Killer Fish: Deadly Treasure of the Piranha is about a jewel thief who hides his loot at the bottom of a reservoir that he keeps full of hungry piranha. Some of his henchmen are not the most loyal subjects, so when they try to steal the booty, they are of course eaten by the titular killer fish. Obviously, everyone is willing to risk their lives to recover the treasure. And it’s a good thing, too. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have a movie.
This 1979 fishsploitation flick is a typical killer fish movie (hence the name), but it’s still a lot of fun. It’s also got a killer seventies cast which includes Lee Majors, Karen Black, Margaux Hemingway, and Gary Collins. See Killer Fish here at Shout Factory TV.
