What’s up, tightwads! It’s time for another Tightwad Terror Tuesday, and that means free movies! Here’s this week’s batch of cheap chills and thrifty thrills…
Valentine is about five young women who are busy preparing for their respective Valentine’s Day dates. Their plans are derailed when they find themselves being stalked by a cherub mask-wearing killer who is out for revenge.
Made in 2001 at the tail end of the nineties slasher renaissance, Valentine is a pretty formulaic movie, especially for those who are familiar with the slice-and-dice subgenre. The hip cast includes Denise Richards, Katherine Heigl, and David Boreanaz. Fall in love with Valentine right here at Vudu.
Lavender is a 2016 movie about a woman who suffers an unimaginable tragedy as a kid, and therefore has selective amnesia about her childhood. She finds herself strangely drawn to a mysterious farmhouse that may hold the key to her mysterious past.
This creative and economic little thriller may sound like something you’ve seen before, but it has enough twists and turns for it to remain interesting. Abbie Cornish stars in the lead role, Dermot Mulroney plays her uncle, and Justin Long pops in as a psychiatrist. Have a look at Lavender here at Kanopy.
The Stepfather is about a man who goes around marrying vulnerable widows and divorcees in his search for the perfect family. As soon as he sees cracks in the foundation of his current family, he murders them and moves on to the next.
Schlocky and shocking, this 1987 flick is nothing but good, pulpy fun. Terry O’Quinn stars as the titular stepfather, Shelley Hack plays his newest mark, and Jill Schoelen appears as the stepdaughter to the stepfather. Give The Stepfather a look here at Shout Factory TV.
The Fog is a legendary John Carpenter spookfest about a coastal town that is plagued by a ghostly ship that rolls in with the fog seeking vengeance. Unfortunately, this is the 2005 remake of that masterpiece.
This version of The Fog is widely regarded as one of the worst horror reboots of the modern age, and truth be told, it earns that reputation. It’s not unwatchable, but it is a pale imitation of the brilliant original. The cast includes Maggie Grace, Selma Blair, and Tom Welling if that makes a difference. If you’re curious, you can find The Fog here at TubiTV.
A remake of the 1964 classic Two Thousand Maniacs!, 2001 Maniacs is about a group of college students that is on its way to Florida for Spring Break. They stop in a small Georgia town on the way, only to find themselves under siege by the locals who are still holding a grudge over their Civil War loss.
The 2005 splatter flick is all pie and chase, which is exactly what it should be. Legitimacy is added to the low-budget production by the presence of horror legends Robert Englund and Lin Shaye. Catch 2001 Maniacs here at Popcornflix.
