What’s up, Tightwads! Ready for another week’s worth of free movies? Well, buckle up. There are some good ones this week…
The Blair Witch Project
The Blair Witch Project is the legendary 1999 movie about three film students who go into the Maryland woods to make a documentary about a witch. They are never seen again, and a year later, their footage is found. And it’s horrifying.
The Blair Witch Project is literally the most influential movie of the 21st century (even though it came at the tail end of the 20th). It single-handedly dragged the found footage style of filmmaking to the forefront of the horror genre. The Blair Witch Project is more than a movie; it’s a cultural phenomenon. It’s essential viewing, so if you’ve missed it, or if you just want to revisit it for its 20th anniversary, you can find it here at Vudu.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes
Speaking of found footage…The Poughkeepsie Tapes is about a serial killer who stalked motorists and prostitutes in the Pennsylvania/New York area. He videotaped many of his misdeeds, and this movie purports to be made up of those tapes.
More of a documentary about the tapes than an actual found footage movie, The Poughkeepsie Tapes is violent, shocking, and disturbing. It’s a difficult watch, but it’s so full of twists and turns that the viewer can’t stop. The story behind it is fascinating, too; the movie was made in 2007, but shelved until a limited VOD run in 2014, and finally given a legitimate home video release in 2017. You can see it now here at TubiTV.
Open Water 3: Cage Dive
The Open Water movies are full of unlucky people in unlikely situations. The third entry in the series, Open Water 3: Cage Dive, is about three adventure seekers who are out cage diving in shark infested waters. A rogue wave capsizes their boat, and the group finds itself treading water amongst the sharks.
Sure, the Open Water movies are pretty silly, but they’re nothing if not fun. They’re also surprisingly engrossing. Once you get started, they’re hard to not watch, and this 2017 threequel is no exception. Shark movie fans will love it. Check out Open Water 3: Cage Dive here at TubiTV.
The Professional is a 1994 movie about a young girl who is reluctantly taken in by a hitman when her family is murdered. The man teaches the girl the tricks of his trade, preparing her to exact her revenge on the people responsible for the killings.
Also known as Léon: The Professional, this movie is a dark and brooding slow-burner, more of a crime drama than a horror movie. Jean Reno stars in the title role, a little Natalie Portman plays the girl, and Gary Oldman portrays the man who wrecked her life. Oh, yeah, and Luc Besson directs, so you know what kind of action-oriented gunfights you’re going to get with this one. Catch The Professional here at Crackle.
The Last Witch Hunter
Just as the title suggests, The Last Witch Hunter is about a witch hunter, the last of his kind, who has defeated the Witch Queen, but in the process, is cursed with immortality. He spends his days tracking down and dispatching rogue witches, and in doing so, he discovers than the Witch Queen has been resurrected – and wants payback.
Made in 2015, The Last Witch Hunter is one of those ultra-slick action movies that pretends to be a horror movie with its monsters. Vin Diesel plays the lead Witch Hunter (because of course he does), and the support cast includes Rose Leslie, Michael Caine, and Elijah Wood.
