Greetings, Tightwads!  It’s time for another Tightwad Terror Tuesday!  Here’s this week’s batch of free movies, from iHorror to your eye holes…

Dead Ringers (1988), courtesy Twentieth Century Fox.

Dead Ringers

Dead Ringers is about twin gynecologists who use their identicalness to seduce women.  When the more alpha of the two is tired of a conquest, he passes her one to the shyer one, and the woman is none the wiser.  A wrench is thrown into the plan when the more subdued brother is the first to fall for one of their new patients.

This 1988 thriller is one of David Cronenberg’s transitional movies where he was moving from the schlock horror of the early eighties to what would become his Oscar bait fare of the 2000s.  It’s a highly polished movie, but still has a bit of the classic Cronenbergness to it.  Jeremy Irons has a field day playing both twins.  Check out Dead Ringers here at Kanopy.

Fire in the Sky (1993), courtesy Paramount Pictures.

Fire in the Sky

As discussed in the last episode of the Eye on Horror podcast, Fire in the Sky is a 1993 movie about a logger who is abducted by a UFO.  Because the sheriff believes that he has a murder on his hands, the rest of the logging crew is questioned, but when the missing man turns up a few days later, the story gets really weird.

Of course, Fire in the Sky is based on a true story, adapted from a book written by Travis Walton, the abducted man.  D.B. Sweeney plays Walton, and Robert Patrick plays his best friend.  Also appearing are horror/sci-fi convention standards Henry Thomas, Craig Sheffer, Bradley Gregg, Peter Berg, and Kathleen Wilhoite.  Oh, and James Garner plays the sheriff.  Catch Fire in the Sky here at TubiTV.

Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College (1991), courtesy Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College

A while back, Tightwad Terror Tuesday brought you Ghoulies.  Well, we’re skipping Ghoulies II and going right for Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College.  Just as you might expect from a title like that, this 1991 horror comedy sees a college professor bringing the little franchise creatures to school, where they wreak havoc among the students and faculty.

There’s not much more you need to know about Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College.  Oh, you want more?  Ok, how about that it was directed by John Carl Buechler, who also directed Troll, Cellar Dwellar, and Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood?  Is that enough to sway you?  You can find Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College right here at Vudu.

Memento (2000), courtesy Columbia TriStar.

Memento

Are you ready for a thinker?  Memento is about a man who suffers from short-term memory loss.  He does not let that stop him from trying to track down his wife’s killer, it just means that he has to tattoo the clues on his body so that he doesn’t forget what he’s doing.

Memento is a 2000, pre-Dark Knight trilogy, early Christopher Nolan joint.  The kicker to it is that it’s told in reverse chronological order, but since the character doesn’t remember things, the movie doesn’t spoil itself.  It’s actually a pretty masterful bit of narrative storytelling.  Guy Pearce stars in the lead role, and the support cast includes talented folks like Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, and Mark Boone Junior.  Dig into Memento right here at Kanopy.

Cyborg (1989), courtesy Cannon Entertainment.

Cyborg

Cyborg is about an apocalyptic mercenary who is hired to escort a cyborg to a group of scientists so that they can find a cure for the plague that has ravaged the world.  The catch is that a roving band of thugs also wants the cyborg for their own nefarious plans.

All you really need to know about this 1989 sci-fi thriller is that Jean-Claude Van Damme plays the mercenary.  Musicians will get an extra kick out of it, since the characters have names like Gibson Rickenbacker, Fender Tremolo, and Marshall Strat.  See Cyborg here at Crackle.
