Hey Tightwads, beware the Ides of March! And while you’re at it, be afraid of this week’s batch of free movies, too.
Dressed to Kill
Dressed to Kill is director Brian De Palma’s 1980 tribute to Hitchcock (or one of them, since all of his early movies were Hitchcockian). It’s about a psychiatric patient who is brutally murdered, with the killer now stalking the call girl who is the only witness. It’s actually much more complex than that, but that’s the short synopsis.
Dressed to Kill is an eighties slasher with a twist. A big twist. The awesome cast includes Michael Caine, Angie Dickinson, Nancy Allen, Dennis Franz, and Keith Gordon. This one is essential viewing, so if you haven’t seen it, you can watch it here at TubiTV.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a Tim Burton adaptation of the musical about a vengeful barber who kills his enemies and, along with his baker accomplice, turns them into meat pies.
This 2007 horror musical is a Tim Burton production, so it goes without saying that it stars Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham Carter as the accomplice Mrs. Lovett. It also stars Alan Rickman, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Timothy Spall. Check out Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street here at Popcornflix.
Patrick: Evil Awakens
A long time ago, Tightwad Terror Tuesday brought you the freaky 1978 movie Patrick. Now, we’re bringing you the 2013 remake, Patrick: Evil Awakens. The story is pretty much the same; it’s about a comatose patient in a hospital who isn’t as comatose as everyone thinks, and starts to psychically stalk his nurse.
This version is not quite as creepy as the original, but it is a lot slicker. The cast includes Charles Dance, Sharni Vinson, Rachel Griffiths, and, in the title role, Jackson Gallagher. Catch Patrick: Evil Awakens right here at Vudu.
As you might suspect from the title, Transylmania is a horror spoof about a group of college students who do a semester abroad in Romania (because that’s a popular destination for College exchange students). Of course, in Romania, there are vampires.
Made in 2009, Transylmania is one of those throw-it-all-at-the-wall-and-let’s-see-what-sticks movies. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t. It is better than Vampires Suck, though. It’s directed by the brothers Hillenbrand, David and Scott. You can find Transylmania here at Crackle.
Set on an Earth that has been decimated by natural disasters and is pummeled by strong winds, Slipstream is about a bounty hunter who steals a prisoner from a pair of police officers, hoping to collect the reward himself. Of course, the officers come after him and his new hostage.
This 1989 flick is more sci-fi adventure than horror, but it’s a fun watch. The late Bill Paxton plays the bounty hunter, Bob Peck stars as the prisoner, and the officers are portrayed by Mark Hamill and Kitty Aldridge. Get caught up in Slipstream right here at DailyMotion.
