Hey Tightwads! It’s that time of week again! Here’s this week’s batch of free movies, from your pals at iHorror and Tightwad Terror Tuesday.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is about a heart surgeon who strikes up a peculiar friendship with an introverted boy whose father died years before. As the relationship progresses, the boy uses his wits and charms to come between the surgeon and his family.
This 2017 thriller is Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos’ finest hour. The audience is conflicted as to who is the hero and who is the villain; the surgeon’s family is caught in the middle, but neither of the principle characters are particularly likeable, or sympathetic. Colin Farrell stars as the surgeon, Nicole Kidman plays his wife, and Barry Keoghan portrays the teenage tormentor. Check out The Killing of a Sacred Deer here at Kanopy.
Castle Freak is a 1995 straight-to-video flick about a husband and wife who inherit a castle in Italy. Upon travelling to the estate to check it out, they discover that the property comes with a murderous secret living within its walls.
Castle Freak is aFull Moon Entertainment joint, and a legendary one at that, so you pretty much know what you’re in for from the get-go. There’s also a mini Re-Animator reunion in the film, as the husband and wife are played by Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton. Have a look at Castle Freak right here at TubiTV.
Wolfen is about an NYPD cop who is tasked with solving a series of brutal murders which have the rest of the force stumped. The murders seem to be the work of an animal, or a pack of animals, and the cop’s instincts prove true when wolf hair is found at the scene of the latest crime.
As one could guess from that synopsis (or even by the name of the movie), the culprit is a group of human-wolf hybrids. This 1981 crime thriller is not your average werewolf movie, though; there’s a more supernatural, spiritual approach that is, frankly, a breath of fresh air. Albert Finney, Edward James Olmos, Gregory Hines, and Tom Noonan head up the all-star cast. Catch Wolfen here at Vudu.
Head Case purports to be a documentary that follows around a notorious serial killer after he gets married. Of course, he and his wife continue on with his murderous ways…in between the ho-hum mundanity of their suburban lives.
Of course, this 2007 pseudo-documentary is one of those post-The Blair Witch Project found footage flicks (yet it was made the same year as Paranormal Activity). It’s cheap, dirty, flawed…and brutal. You can see Head Case here at Popcornflix.
Last week, Hollywood was stunned by the announcement of the death of actress Sondra Locke. Locke was best known as Clint Eastwood’s longtime girlfriend, but she had a healthy career of her own as well. Death Game stars her and Colleen Camp as a pair of teenage girls who talk their way into the house of a married man for a party. Of course, things don’t go so well for the poor man.
Astute readers may recognize this as the plot of Eli Roth’s Knock Knock. That’s because Knock Knock is pretty much a remake of Death Game. For those who want to see the original, and bask in the beauty that is Sondra Locke, you can find Death Game here at DailyMotion.
