Hey Tightwads! Ready for another bundle of free movies? Well guess what…here they come…!
There seems to be a new Amityville movie released every couple of months. And there’s a new one coming out next week, so…in its honor, Tightwad Terror Tuesday is bringing you Amityville 3-D. This 1983 sequel is about a reporter who, after exposing the con artists who lived there before, purchases the infamous home at 112 Ocean Avenue. Of course, the place is teeming with demons, because a portal to hell is in the basement.
Amityville 3-D was one of the movies that exploited the 3-D fad in the early eighties (most of them were part 3’s, like Friday the 13th: Part III in 3-D or Jaws 3-D), so while it’s not presented in true 3-D here, it does provide some fun, often hilarious in-your-face gags. Like the Saw franchise, the Amityville movies get progressively stupider, so this one is the 3rd best in the series. Keep an eye out for a young Meg Ryan in a small role. Take Shelter is about a man who has apocalyptic visions of a horrible storm. While everyone else thinks that he is crazy, the man builds a shelter in the backyard to protect his family from what he believes will be a coming catastrophic event. But there’s always the chance that he might just be as crazy as everyone thinks he is.
This beautifully shot 2011 movie deals more with scary ideas than scary occurrences, and there’s no monsters or serial killers to be found (there may or may not be a crazy man, though). Approach this thriller with an open mind. Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain both turn in wonderful performances. Have a look at Take Shelter here at Crackle.
Slice is a crazy movie about a pizza place whose delivery guys keep getting murdered. When the girlfriend of one of the slain drivers decides to solve the murders, she finds herself mixed up on the wrong side of town with ghosts, witches and werewolves. Like I said, it’s a crazy movie.
There’s a little of everything in this 2018 sleeper. It’s part supernatural horror movie and part good old-fashioned slasher flick. It’s also surprisingly funny. Chance the Rapper makes his feature film debut in this one. Get a load of Slice here at Kanopy.
Bethany is about a woman who moves back into her childhood home with her husband after the death of her mother. Almost immediately, the woman starts having flashbacks to her abusive mother and her imaginary friend, Bethany. Are the visions all in her head, or are they more than just imaginary?
This 2017 spookfest is mostly fun, although a bit bland at times. The woman is played by Stefanie Estes, Zack Ward portrays her husband, and Shannen Doherty pops in as the mother. Oh, and Tom Green shows up as a doctor. Catch Bethany here at TubiTV.
The Hive is set on a island that is overrun by ants. When the population starts getting attacked and eaten by the insects, the government calls in a crack team of specialists to help eradicate the problem. Soon enough, the exterminators learn that the bugs are not just your average house ants.
Although it was made in 2008, The Hive is a cool throwback to the killer insect movies of the seventies. It’s a made-for-SyFy movie, as is evidenced by Luke Duke himself, Tom Wopat, in the lead role. Get swarmed by The Hive here at IMDB’s Freedive.
