Hey Tightwads! Are you ready for another batch of free movies from Tightwad Terror Tuesday and iHorror? Good. Because there’s some good stuff this week…
Stephen King’s It
With the phenomenal success of IT this past summer, it may be time to catch up with (or revisit) this original 1990 television mini-series. Just like the updated one, Stephen King’s It is about a group of kids who are haunted by an evil shape-shifting clown called Pennywise. The kids in this adaptation aren’t as likeable, but Tim Curry is an absolutely terrifying vision of Pennywise. Like the modern version, Stephen King’s It is divided into two parts. Part 1, which is the kid’s story, is here, while Part 2, the adult half, is here, both at Crackle.
Shadow of the Vampire
Shadow of the Vampire is a speculative look at the making of the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu. The film mostly deals with the relationship between director F.W. Murnau and lead actor Max Schreck after Schreck starts taking his vampiric role a little too seriously. This 2000 semi-biopic is a bit light on scares, but it’s a fascinating theoretical glimpse at a troubled production. The cast is first-rate, with John Malkovich starring as Murnau and Willem Dafoe playing Schreck. Udo Kier, Eddie Izzard, and Cary Elwes also appear. Let Me Make You A Martyr
Let Me Make You A Martyr is a 2016 thriller about a an adopted brother and sister who come up with a plan to kill their father so that they can continue on with their torrid love affair. But when Dad catches wind of the scheme, he hatches a plan of his own. This clever little revenge tale stars Sam Quartin and Niko Nicotera as the in-love siblings, and Mark Boone Junior as their father. Marilyn Manson also shows up as a hired hitman. The Survivor is about a pilot who happens to be the only survivor when he crashes his jumbo jet, and he has no memory of the incident. When the ghostly images of the passengers start showing up and tormenting citizens around town, he seeks the help of a psychic to help him unlock the mystery. Made in 1981, this economical little creepfest stars the versatile Robert Powell as the pilot and the lovely Jenny Agutter as the psychic. Survive The Survivor right here at PopcornFlix.
Don’t Answer the Phone!
Loosely based upon the case of the Hillside Strangler, Don’t Answer the Phone! is about, well, a killer in Los Angeles who strangles women. He calls into a radio show and hints about his crimes, so detectives team up with the psychologist radio host to stop him. This cool 1980 proto-slasher turns its oddly charismatic villain into the anti-hero. It’s also a fun time capsule of late-seventies Los Angeles. See Don’t Answer the Phone! here at YouTube.
