Any horror fan who’s been around the block a few times knows that the best of our genre quite often doesn’t get a wide theatrical release, or hail from a big Hollywood studio. For instance, one of my favorite horrors of 2009 was indie flick The Collector.
Written by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, and directed by Dunstan, The Collector centers on Arkin (Josh Stewart), an ex-con forced to reenter the crime game in order to protect his family. This time though, an attempted heist goes very wrong.
The titular villain certainly draws comparisons to the Saw series with his love of traps, but The Collector is a great movie in its own right, and continued its story in 2012’s The Collection. Now, Bloody Disgusting reports that The Collector 3 is on the way.
Stewart is set to return as Arkin, and considering where The Collection ended things, that’s a very interesting prospect. Dunstan is also set to return as director, and one assumes Melton will return to co-write the script. A release date has yet to be provided.
It’s about time this happened, as a third Collector film has been rumored for years. Interestingly, it was once titled The Collected, which honestly is much better than The Collector 3 in my opinion. Either way, it’ll be cool to see where the story goes next.
