It’s no secret by now that The X-Files is returning to Fox in the form of a six-episode limited revival series, which will see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise the iconic roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. In other words, now is the perfect time to revisit the original series, and now you can do so in style.
Though the entire run of The X-Files has been available for instant streaming on Netflix for quite some time, the service is now offering up the entire first season in high-definition, for the very first time. This is particularly exciting news because the series has not yet been released onto Blu-ray.
For now, it’s only Season 1 that can be streamed in high definition, but Netflix says that subsequent seasons will soon be upgraded as well. In total, there were nine seasons of the original X-Files series, along with two feature films – both of which have gotten Blu-ray releases.
Prior to writing up this post I checked out an episode of the show in HD and I must say, The X-Files has never looked better. So if you want to reacquaint yourself with the likes of Eugene Tooms and Luther Lee Boggs (played by Brad ‘Chucky’ Dourif!) prior to the series returning to TV, now is indeed the best time to do so.
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” series creator Chris Carter recently joked about the upcoming revival series. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”
