If you’re reading this website, chances are that you’re familiar with AMC’s zombie epic The Walking Dead. After all, it’s the most popular show on TV. In fact, TWD is so popular that it spawned a spinoff series a few years back, called Fear the Walking Dead.
As long as the two shows have coexisted, producers have steadily maintained that there were no plans to crossover the story of Fear with that of its progenitor. However, in quite the stunning reversal, Deadline reports that a crossover between TWD and Fear TWD is officially coming.
The news was revealed by franchise creator Robert Kirkman himself, during tonight’s Walking Dead panel at New York Comic-Con. In usual Kirkman fashion though, he didn’t offer many specifics on what the crossover will entail. Here’s his full quote.
“There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name. This is a huge event in the world of The Walking Dead.”
The crossover between TWD and Fear TWD is expected to occur within the next year, but that doesn’t really offer much guidance on when fans can expect to see it.
The next 12 months will see new seasons of both apocalyptic dramas air, and thanks to Kirkman’s sparsely worded announcement, it’s unclear which show will see a character leave and go to the other show.
Whatever ends up happening, Kirkman isn’t wrong when he calls the crossover a huge event. Fans of the franchise have been waiting not so patiently for this to happen since Fear debuted. Here’s hoping that what ultimately occurs manages to live up to what is sure to be massive amounts of hype.
